The New Salem Crew Public Library
The New Salem Crew Public Library
2010
The new library is a very busy place and will continue to offer service for years to come. The new century brings challenges which are now prepared to meet through the generosity of over four hundred individuals, businesses of all sizes, foundations, government, and many volunteers. Funding for this project has been based entirely on charitable giving. It is not supported by any increases in taxes.
The new library has been constructed on the north side of Cherry Street on the historic town square. The front facade and entrance recall the decorative brick and design of the buildings that once graced the town square. The entryway echoes early schoolhouses of rural and small town America - the historic focus of the new Salem Crew Public Library
The 4,278 sq. ft. library meets our needs with space to house books and periodicals, computers, microfiche, large screen TV, LCD projector and screen, music CD’s, movie DVD’s, printer and copier. Also included are a children’s literature and activity center, adult reading area, genealogy study area, meeting room, and displays of historical interest.
The theme of the new library is “Rural Education”, an integral part of local history and the Salem community.
The new facility has allowed us to expand our hours of operation and thus qualify for more funding. We are offering more programs and provide a place for local groups to meet.
Donations can continue to be made to the Friends of the Library, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that will help fund the educational programs and operation and maintenance of the library. Open the Friends of the Library tab above for more details.
